Conifers are much more than a year round green backdrop. These "evergreens" can be yellow, white, powder blue, mauve, purple and/or lime. They can be striped or splashed with different colors and they can even change colors from season to season. Shapes vary from prostrate groundcovers to upright trees with weeping limbs and from narrow spires to miniature buns. Foliage texture can be frothy, long needled, finely compressed or bristly. And discard the idea that they only grow in full sun—many thrive in the shade. They are indispensable to our garden's year-round interest.
